Welcome to the peace, tranquility and beauty of West Lakes and fells from our tastefully furnished Old Mill Cottage.
The Old Mill stands in its own five-acre small-holding, in a beautiful setting on the banks of the River Cocker, and has historical roots in the Flax and Bobbin industry. It has been tastefully converted for your enjoyment, and thoughtfully adapted for wheel-chair access.
A private Patio over-looks the river teaming with wildlife: Herons, Dippers, Water-hens, the occasional Kingfisher and a host of Mallards and Goosanders. In late summer and autumn you will hear the splash of the Salmon and Trout as they make their way up-stream to spawn. Apart from the river life, bird life abounds, from tiny Wrens and Tree-creepers, colourful Chaffinches, Robins, at least four kinds of Tits, to mighty Buzzards calling as they circle over-head.
We also have Red Squirrels which can be seen darting up trees and nibbelling on some nuts.
Simonscales offers the peace and tranquility of the countryside, yet is just a beautiful, one mile walk from the town of Cockermouth, the birth place of William Wordsworth - Lakelands' treasured Poet. Wordsworth's house is open to the public.
Simonscales Mill Cottage offers modern furnishing and appliances and en-suite bathroom facilities in both bedrooms. We are a non-smoking establishment though arrangements can be made for smoking in the conservatory. Pets are welcome!
There is a play area for under 5's and an adventure climbing frame with swings and slide for older children. These facilities are available subject to parent supervision.
We hope to make your stay with us a happy, comfortable and memorable one, so that you may return one day to enjoy all that Cumbria and the Lakes have to offer.
